Storied New York City retailer Tip Top Shoes has worked with French footwear brand Mephisto and menswear stylist Mordechai Rubinstein on a limited-edition sneaker collaboration set to be released next weekend.
Rubinstein, who’s also a street style photographer and brand consultant and is better known as Mister Mort online, worked with the historic independent retailer and Mephisto on a special version of the French brand’s most popular sneaker, the Match.
The Mister Mort x Tip Top Shoes x Mephisto Match takes inspiration from retro hiking boots, decking out the low-top walking sneaker in materials often found on mountaineering shoes.
This concept translates to a brown roughout leather upper that’s paired with Mephisto’s Desert Mamouth leather at the heel counter. The Match’s D-ring speed lacing further adds to the hiker-inspired aesthetic, as does the inclusion of four different colorful shoelaces allowing for a variety of looks.
A tri-branded woven tongue tag includes logos of all three parties involved, while text reading “town or country: no mountain you can’t climb” emphasizes the collaboration’s urban and mountain-inspired duality.
While Mephisto is often touted as the “Rolls-Royce of shoes,” Tip Top Shoes instead likens the collaboration to a Range Rover for being both durable and rugged.
Along with the brown general release colorway, the three partners also designed a friends-and-family-exclusive in pink and red leather that is limited to only 15 pairs worldwide.
Tip Top Shoes celebrated its 85th anniversary in 2025, a milestone which included an Adidas collaboration through the retailer’s sister store, West NYC.
The Mister Mort x Tip Top Shoes x Mephisto Match will be released Saturday from Tip Top Shoes in-store at 10 a.m. ET and online from tiptopshoes.com at noon. Retail pricing is set at $425.
