Spain Offers Passport Appointment Slots in Havana for Registrations Until June 30

The General Consulate of Spain in Havana has announced that individuals who registered in their Civil Registry up until June 30, 2026, and received notification via DICIREG, are now eligible to schedule an appointment to apply for their first Spanish passport.

This announcement was made in an official notice released on Friday, October 9. The Consulate has extended the previous cutoff, which was initially set for May 31, 2026.

Eligibility Criteria for Spanish Passport Application

Applicants must meet two specific conditions: registration in the Consular Civil Registry within the stipulated timeframe, and receipt of the DICIREG notification. The June 30 date pertains solely to the registration, not the date when Spanish nationality was applied for.

Steps to Schedule a Passport Appointment

Interested parties should visit the Consulate's official website for passport requirements and appointments, navigating to the section titled "Procedure for Obtaining a First Passport Appointment." Here, the appropriate process is outlined based on registration date and details.

For those registered after March 15, 2025, who received their DICIREG notification via email, the Consulate advises using the 11-digit Cuban identity card number as the identifier and the first nine alphanumeric characters of the personal registration code as the password. A different procedure exists for earlier registrations, which relies on book, page, and registration number details, also explained on the consular website.

Appointment Availability and Costs

The Consulate cautions that appointment slots are released progressively and advises checking the system again if no slots are available initially. While booking an appointment is free, passport issuance incurs the applicable consular fee.

Required Documents for Consulate Visit

Applicants must appear in person, including minors. Required documents include the completed application form, a recent color photo (32 by 26 millimeters with a white background), and both the original and a photocopy of the Cuban identity card or residence document issued by Cuban authorities.

Enrollment in the Consular Registration of Residents is also necessary. Those applying for their first passport and not yet registered must submit the appropriate registration form. If the birth is already recorded in the Consulate's Civil Registry, an initial literal birth certificate is not required, although additional documents may be requested to verify identity or nationality. Applications for minors require specific authorizations and documents.

Passport Collection Process

Passport applications are submitted in person at the Lonja del Comercio building, located at Lamparilla Street No. 2, in Old Havana. Passports are collected at the Palacio de Velasco, Zulueta No. 2, from Monday to Thursday, between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. No passports are issued on Fridays.

After submitting the application, applicants should track the document's status through the official consular tracking service. Once available for pickup, it can be collected without an appointment, provided the necessary documents are presented. The Consulate estimates a three-week processing time from the application date, though this is an approximation and may vary.

This initiative is solely for the initial application of a Spanish passport and does not grant new nationality rights or alter passport renewal or visa procedures. To prevent errors and potential fraud, consultations and bookings should be made through official Consulate channels.
