Gmarket is expanding support for its open-market sellers, including placing products from price-competitive sellers on its front page.
The company said on the 15th that it held its "2026 Seller Conference" for two days, from the 13th to the 14th, at Shinsegae Namsan in Seoul's Jung-gu district, where it shared its strategy for growing alongside its 660,000 sellers. About 1,000 sellers attended the event. From the company, Gmarket Chief Executive James Chang, whose Korean name is Chang Seung-hwan, and leaders from business units including sales, marketing, technology and logistics presented this year's main results and next year's direction for seller support.
Gmarket will first revamp how its hot deals work to make it easier for sellers to take part. The company plans to introduce a deal section that displays products from price-competitive sellers on the Gmarket home page for a set period. "If sellers offer competitive prices, Gmarket will mobilize all of its capabilities to maximize product exposure," said Lee Min-kyu, head of Gmarket's sales division. "We hope the deal section, now simpler to join, will further increase sales for many sellers."
The company also unveiled a new coupon policy to boost seller sales and plans to introduce an artificial intelligence agent within its seller management site. Chang outlined a plan to use AI to make shopping more convenient for customers while also strengthening the enjoyment of browsing and discovering personal tastes. "We will make sure customers can experience not only simple shopping through an AI agent but also shopping they can enjoy in depth as they discover their own tastes, all through Gmarket," he said.
The conference also featured consultation booths tailored to sellers. Gmarket set up advisory corners by business area, including global reverse-direct purchasing, fulfillment services, AI advertising programs and promotions, to present support measures suited to the characteristics of both large brands and small and midsize sellers.
A Gmarket official said the event was "an occasion to share the results of the seller support we have pursued since the launch of the joint venture last year, and to express our commitment to strengthening support next year so that small and midsize sellers and major brands can grow together." The official added, "We will communicate closely with sellers to strengthen our open-market competitiveness and continue our shared growth."
