Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday said India has taken a series of measures to improve cooperation with Poland, especially in the fields of defence, space and nuclear energy, after holding talks with his counterpart, Donald Tusk.
"We have agreed to boost cooperation in areas of defence, space and nuclear energy," said Modi. He added that the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) had widened opportunities for partnership with the Scandinavian country and showcased India's rising economic strength and momentum in bilateral relations over the past two years.
"Our growing economic strength has created new opportunities for the India-Poland partnership. And the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement has made these opportunities even broader," PM Modi said while addressing a joint press meet with Tusk at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
The prime minister said the growing bilateral economic strength has created new opportunities for the India-Poland partnership, adding New Delhi's free trade agreement with the European Union will further solidify the economic engagement between the two countries.
Modi highlighted the historical bonds between India and Poland, and added the friendship was part of a shared heritage in humanity and empathy, which goes beyond diplomatic relationships.
"The friendship between India and Poland is not based merely on diplomatic relations, but on the shared heritage of humanity and empathy," he said.
Recalling the assistance extended to Polish families during the Second World War, PM Modi said, "During the Second World War, the royal families of Jamnagar and Kolhapur had provided shelter to thousands of Polish children and families in India."
India will also continue to back every meaningful effort to bring peace to West Asia and Ukraine, Modi said.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi held bilateral talks with Tusk at Hyderabad House to discuss India-Poland relations and explore opportunities for strengthening cooperation across key sectors.
