I have a deep-seated hatred for teppanyaki restaurants, or “experiences” as I suppose they’d rather call them. There is something so ghastly about sitting around to watch a fella throw an onion into the air and cut it with his knife mid-air, and there is equally something so ghastly about when they light the meat on fire and the entire table goes “ooh” and “aah” like they’re at a village fair fireworks display. Teppanyaki restaurants are for teenagers or adults who do not leave the house much.
Thankfully, Kureta, within the confines of the newly renovated JW Marriott, spares us most of the showmanship (I say “most”, because there is still a show of lighting steak on fire, with a blowtorch).
