The Chicago Bears silenced some doubters on Thursday night. But they suffered a tough blow with Cole Kmet’s injury. And Friday’s update spells bad news for the Bears, according to a post on X by Ian Rapoport.
“#Bears TE Cole Kmet, who was carted off in last night’s win over the #Patriots, is believed to have suffered a serious, likely season-ending knee injury, sources say. Kmet is undergoing testing this morning, and until those results come back, there is no finality.”
A seven-year veteran, Kmet has been a fixture for the Bears offense. He had started 75 games in the four years leading up to this season. In seven games this year, Kmet had 10 catches for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Bears taking TE Cole Kmet’s injury hard
Quarterback Caleb Williams said it was difficult to see Kmet go down, according to the New York Post.
“It was tough,” Williams said. “I don’t know exactly what it is and all of that, but obviously being carted off is never good. You’re at least going to miss some time. I don’t have the words to describe what Cole is to me, what Cole is to this team, this organization. He’s the longest-tenured Bear, I believe.
“He’s been through it, and it’s challenging. It’s tough, and I’ll be with him. I’ll be right there with him through every step of whatever the injury is. Cole’s been there for me every step of the way through the first year, the second year, and now through this year. I could only do the same for him.”
Teammate tight end Colston Loveland said the Bears will certainly miss Kmet, according to ESPN.
“Love that guy,” Loveland said. “We’re going to miss him, for sure. I’m praying for him.”
The Bears stand at 5-2 on the season after the 30-24 win over the Patriots on Thursday Night Football. They are in second place in the tough NFC Central.
