By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 17-year-old student from the Cayo District has been charged with aggravated assault and several traffic-related offences following a motorcycle pursuit that reportedly ended with a police officer being struck.
According to police, officers conducting patrols in Bullet Tree Village around 10:15 p.m. on October 3 attempted to stop a red and white dirt bike carrying two individuals. The driver allegedly ignored police signals and sped away.
The pursuit continued through several streets before the motorcycle encountered a roadway obstructed by an ongoing wake. Police allege that the teenager turned the motorcycle around and rode toward the pursuing officers, striking one officer on the arm.
The motorcycle subsequently fell, and the teenager allegedly resisted attempts to detain him.
Police later confirmed that the motorcycle’s documents were up to date. The student was formally charged on October 4 with aggravated assault, wilfully refusing to stop when directed, reckless driving and resisting arrest.
The teenager’s identity is being withheld because he is a minor.
