LONDON: Phil Collins may soon start work on a hard-hitting song about US firearm culture and obesity, while taking a few shots at President Donald Trump along the way.
The eight-time Grammy Award winner told British broadcaster Piers Morgan that he hasn't played the drums in 15 years and isn't writing music at the moment, but you never can tell when inspiration might strike.
"Well, sometimes you get ideas that will come to you. I mean, I've got a song that's waiting to be written called Fat People With Guns, which is about America," he said on Morgan's YouTube programme.
Collins will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist next month in Ohio.
He and his band Genesis were previously inducted in 2010.
The Another Day In Paradise singer told Morgan that he simply jotted down the line about Americans with weapons so he wouldn't forget it.
The Londoner added that he might write a song about the topic if someone doesn't steal his idea first.
Health problems have prevented Collins from performing live since he and Genesis concluded their Last Domino? Tour in London in 2022.
That final stretch included a pair of December 2021 shows at Madison Square Garden.
Collins also told Morgan that he has no problem speaking out against Trump or the "scary" state of American politics.
"When someone like Trump is as nasty as he is, you end up feeling dislike for him," he said.
Collins noted that he wouldn't be at all surprised if Trump tries to remain in office after his second term is complete, even though that would be unconstitutional.
"I'm not a political person, but I do see right from wrong," Collins said.
