The United Nations says more than 2.8 billion people worldwide live in inadequate housing conditions, marking the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
On Saturday, October 17, the organization stressed that poor and disadvantaged people are disproportionately affected by the lack of adequate housing.
This year’s International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is being observed under the theme “Safe Homes for All.”
The day aims to highlight the importance of ensuring safe and adequate housing while protecting human rights and human dignity.
The United Nations also said that access to adequate housing is linked to the Sustainable Development Goals, including ending poverty, reducing inequalities, building sustainable cities and communities, and promoting peace and justice.
