Agartala, October 14, 2026: Two newly inaugurated 132 kV power sub-stations at Sabroom and Satchand, constructed at a combined cost of approximately ₹113.92 crore, are set to strengthen electricity infrastructure in South Tripura and improve power services for 37,548 consumers across the district. Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath inaugurated the two facilities on Tuesday, marking a significant step towards ensuring a more reliable, efficient and uninterrupted electricity supply in the region.
The projects have been implemented by the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited with financial assistance from the Government of India and the World Bank. The new infrastructure is expected to improve the quality and reliability of electricity distribution in Sabroom, Satchand and their adjoining areas, while supporting the region’s overall development.

The 132 kV Sabroom sub-station was constructed at an estimated cost of ₹66.19 crore, with work commencing in March 2021. The project includes a two-storey control room building and a 132 kV double-circuit transmission line connecting Belonia with Sabroom. The sub-station has two 132/33 kV transformers, each with a capacity of 31.5 MVA, and two 33/11 kV transformers of 10 MVA each.

The facility has been connected to the Belonia and Satchand sub-stations through the newly constructed transmission infrastructure. A total of 21,398 electricity consumers will benefit from the project. The beneficiary areas include Sabroom, Vaishnabpur, Manughat, Harina, Bankul, the Integrated Check Post, Ludhua, Rupaichhari and neighbouring localities.
Meanwhile, the 132 kV Satchand sub-station was developed at an estimated cost of ₹47.83 crore, with construction beginning in January 2021. The project includes a two-storey control room building, two 132/33 kV transformers of 31.5 MVA each and two 33/11 kV transformers of 10 MVA each. A 132 kV transmission line connecting Satchand with Bagafa has also been constructed to strengthen connectivity with the existing power network.

The Satchand sub-station has been linked to the Bagafa and Sabroom sub-stations through the new transmission infrastructure. It is expected to benefit 16,150 consumers in Satchand, Manubazar, Shakbari, Magurchhara, Kalachhara, Bhurakhali, Sindukpathar, Rajivnagar, Srinagar and surrounding areas.
The commissioning of both facilities is expected to enhance the efficiency of the power distribution network, reduce supply-related difficulties and provide better electricity services to households and other consumers across South Tripura.
