Arizona Cardinals fans finally can hang their hat on the efforts of their beloved team heading into Week 7. Yet, head coach Mike LaFleur needs to be mindful and avoid becoming too zealous versus the Denver Broncos defense this upcoming Sunday. Perhaps the Cardinals ability to rush for a combined 120 yards in Week 6 can be a healthy point of reference for the coaching staff.
The Cardinals have averaged 3.7 rushing yards per attempt through the first few games on the 2026 NFL season but they haven't faired much better with their air-attack. Starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett has averaged 5.7 yards per passing attempt and only has three more recorded touchdown passes than he does interceptions. Sure, rookie running back Jeremiyah Love is listed as questionable for the upcoming game but the efforts of running backs Tyler Allgeier and Bam Knight seemed to work out just fine last weekend.
Allgeier gained his renown with the Atlanta Falcons over the last four NFL seasons working as a reinforcer behind Bijan Robinson. Allgeier only produced 38 yards in Week 6 but his physicality will continue to be a complement to the all-in-one versatility of Love if offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett increases Allgeier's volume so that he remains serviceable.
Knight's elusiveness also showed itself to be an asset for Hackett last week, and his 31-yard run against the Los Angeles Rams should encourage LaFleur to open up the playbook with running back screens and counters. Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph is going to blitz Brissett, and the only way the Cardinals can avoid negative plays is to keep the Broncos defensive front offset with a balanced offensive attack. Ultimately, this means that establishing a ground attack will be vital to the Cardinals as they hope to advance to 3-4 on the season. Time will tell how the offense fares versus arguably the best defense in the AFC.
