WASHINGTON – US President Donald J Trump has removed Katie Zacharia from her position as the White House press secretary just five days after her appointment, according to US media reports.
Trump said the media had not treated Zacharia fairly and that she should not have to face further difficulties from news organisations.
The US president added that he was considering another position for Zacharia and would discuss the matter with her after returning home.
According to reports, Zacharia’s first press briefing at the White House faced intense criticism. Questions were also raised about her legal qualifications after she acknowledged failing the bar examination.
Trump had praised Zacharia’s first press briefing on Tuesday, describing it as very good.
The reported decision to remove her from the position comes amid scrutiny of her performance and professional credentials. However, Trump indicated that he was considering an alternative role for her rather than ending her association with his administration.
