• Following the news of the new relationship, Babalwa M teased a breakup anthem, signalling a new chapter for both artists

Kelvin Momo's new romance has reignited public interest in his past relationship with Amapiano vocalist Babalwa M, with fans revisiting what was once considered one of South African music's most celebrated couples.

The producer quietly introduced a new love interest on social media in October 2026, while Babalwa M simultaneously teased what appears to be a breakup anthem - a poetic parallel that has not gone unnoticed by their loyal followers.

How the power couple rose together

The story of Kelvin Momo and Babalwa M is as much a musical one as it is romantic. Their partnership took shape around 2020 when they released the collaborative EP Bayeke, which became a defining moment for the "Private School Amapiano" sound - a blend of Kelvin Momo's jazz-tinged production and Babalwa M's expressive vocals. Fans quickly embraced them as a young power couple shaping the genre's identity.

By October 2021, Babalwa M had released her debut studio album Aluta Continua, with Kelvin Momo serving as a key contributor to its production. The album helped cement her status as one of Amapiano's leading soulful voices. Through 2022 and 2023, the pair continued collaborating across multiple projects, regularly performing together and drawing admiration on social media for their seemingly seamless romantic and professional connection.

It was during this period that Momo often referred to his Babalwa as his wife, which quickly fueled speculation about the pair being a married couple, although Babalwa later dismissed the rumours in an interview.

Their final chapter together

Their partnership reached commercial heights in the first half of 2024. Babalwa M dropped her EP Pisces in April of that year, with the single Pholisa, featuring Kelvin Momo, Stixx, and Baby S.O.N, climbing to the top three on local charts. By August 2024, she had been named Apple Music's Isgubhu cover star, with their joint and solo recordings dominating streaming platforms.

The highs, however, were followed by a quiet ending. Reports of their breakup surfaced in October that same year, with the news hitting their fanbase hard. Many had viewed the couple as an inseparable unit, and speculation grew over whether the split would bring an end to their musical collaborations as well.

Later that year, Momo was said to have already moved on after a photo of him appearing cosy with an unknown woman surfaced online shortly after the break-up from Babalwa.

Solo paths and moving on

Since parting ways, both artists have channelled their energy into their individual careers. Babalwa M released Candour in late 2024 and followed it with her album Acquiesce in November 2025, demonstrating remarkable creative output in the wake of the breakup. Kelvin Momo, meanwhile, has continued building his production legacy independently.

October 2026 appears to mark the emotional close of this chapter for both, with his soft-launch and her apparent breakup anthem and unbothered reaction to the news arriving almost simultaneously, giving their story one final, bittersweet moment in the spotlight.
