SK Rent A Car is shifting vehicle pickup at its Jeju branch to a contactless process while expanding its premium lineup and partnership benefits.
The company said on the 16th that it will switch the pickup procedure — the final step before customers drive off the lot — to a contactless format starting late this month. The change is intended to cut waiting times and let customers complete handover more quickly.
Last month, SK Rent A Car opened a new branch desk inside Jeju International Airport, giving arriving travelers a point of contact for rental guidance and on-site bookings. The branch also built its own fuel station, shortening the turnaround time for servicing, refueling and washing returned vehicles.
The company is also widening vehicle choices to match different travel purposes and tastes. Following the Volvo XC60 currently in service and the Hyundai Motor Ioniq 9 added in August, the Toyota Alphard Hybrid and Toyota RAV4 Hybrid will join the fleet this month.
Since last month, SK Rent A Car has operated more than 60 vehicles equipped with FSD Lite, Tesla's driver-assistance feature that operates under driver supervision. Rentals in September, after the feature was introduced, rose 41.2% from June, before its introduction.
Beyond vehicles and technology, the company is raising the level of customer service. SK Rent A Car has recruited Son Jang-ho, a hotel and resort operations specialist, as its new head of the Jeju division, bringing service practices developed in hotels to the rental car business. Son has led opening preparations and operations for a global hotel group and a large integrated resort, and previously served as general manager of a resort in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. Son will oversee service and operations at the Jeju branch, with plans to strengthen on-site guidance and support so that foreign customers can easily understand rental procedures and use vehicles with confidence.
SK Rent A Car is also expanding partnerships that link travel around Jeju with the rental experience. The Jeju Drive Pass, launched on the 30th of last month, bundles benefits from about 50 partner venues on the island, including Aqua Planet Jeju, Snoopy Garden and Eco Land Theme Park, allowing customers to enjoy local attractions as they drive across Jeju.
"The Jeju branch is the first impression of a trip to Jeju and a mobility marketing platform that connects customers with a range of brands," Son said. "By adding the attentive service practices built up at hotels and resorts to a convenient rental process and distinctive vehicles, we will create an experience that satisfies both domestic and international travelers."
