The Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, has directed accredited insolvency practitioners in Nigeria to renew their accreditation and complete a mandatory re-registration exercise on or before December 1, 2026, warning that failure to meet the deadline will result in the automatic suspension of accreditation due for renewal.
The commission said the suspension would render affected practitioners ineligible to undertake new insolvency assignments or continue existing ones, potentially disrupting their professional activities.
The directive was contained in a public notice issued by the CAC management, which reminded practitioners that accreditation is valid for three years and must be renewed upon expiration.
According to the commission, the requirement is in line with Section 705 of the Companies and Allied Matters Act, CAMA, 2020, and Regulation 1.07 of the Insolvency Regulations, 2022.
The commission said practitioners whose accreditation is due for renewal must complete the process by the stipulated deadline to avoid automatic suspension and the resulting restrictions on their professional practice.
Beyond the renewal exercise, the CAC also announced a mandatory re-registration for all accredited insolvency practitioners, including those whose accreditation certificates remain valid and have not expired.
The commission explained that the additional requirement followed its transition to end-to-end automation and the need to update practitioners’ identification records in line with the NIMC Act, 2026.
It said the re-registration exercise would enable the commission to update its records and strengthen the administration of insolvency practice through its automated system.
The CAC further announced that new accreditation certificates incorporating enhanced security features would be issued to practitioners who successfully complete the registration process.
The commission directed all applications for accreditation renewal and re-registration to be submitted online through its dedicated insolvency portal at insolvency.cac.gov.ng.
Practitioners seeking further information on the exercise were advised to visit the commission’s official website at cac.gov.ng.
The CAC urged all affected professionals to begin the process promptly to avoid disruptions to their practice, particularly those whose accreditation is approaching expiration.
The notice underscores the commission’s effort to enforce the statutory requirements governing insolvency practice while updating the identification records and accreditation documents of practitioners operating in the sector.
