A man has admitted to filming his dogs attacking and tearing apart wildlife in “deliberate and horrific” acts of cruelty.
Ryan Cringean pleaded guilty to 11 charges involving serious animal fighting and welfare offences at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
Cringean caused one dog to be permanently disfigured through the attacks on animals, including badgers, squirrels and foxes, between June 2024 and February 2025.
A search warrant was granted for Cringean’s property after inspectors from the Scottish SPCA received intelligence indicating he was keeping dogs for animal fighting.
They attended his home in February 2025 with support from Police Scotland.
During an appearance at Dumfries Sheriff Court, a judge told Cringean: “This is serious behaviour over an eight-month period of time, where a young child was present in the background.
“It is difficult to comprehend the mindset for the behaviour, and therefore I have no other option but to remand you in custody.”
Cringean is to return to court for sentencing on November 18.
Following Tuesday’s hearing, an inspector from the Scottish SPCA’s special investigations unit said: “These videos show deliberate and horrific cruelty to dogs and wildlife.
“The animals attacked endured a long and torturous death.
“Today’s outcome reflects the seriousness of the offences. We look forward to the sentencing.”
Cringean was remanded in custody.
