NUP candidate Julius Katongole is challenging NRM’s Bonny Kabugo’s victory in the Lubaga III LCV election, seeking a fresh poll or a recount as the court schedules further proceedings for October 15.
National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Julius Katongole, popularly known as Mumiransanafu, has petitioned the Mengo Court seeking to overturn National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Bonny Kabugo’s victory in the Lubaga III Local Council V election.
The two candidates appeared before Mwanga II Court in Mengo, presided over by Magistrate Joseph Kwesiga, as the dispute over the election results entered the judicial process.
Katongole, who contested for the Lubaga III LCV seat covering areas including Najjanankumbi, Nateete and Lubaga, is seeking to have Kabugo’s victory nullified.
In his petition, Katongole is asking the court to order a fresh election or, alternatively, a recount of the ballots, which he believes could establish the rightful winner.
Katongole is represented by lawyer Jude Mbabaali, while Kabugo is represented by lawyer Michael Kintu.
During the court session, lawyers for both candidates jointly asked Magistrate Kwesiga to allow them to present their cases through written submissions and documentary evidence.
The magistrate granted the request and scheduled October 15, 2026, for the matter to resume, when the parties are expected to continue with the proceedings.
The court will consider the parties’ arguments before determining the petition.
Kabugo’s victory remains in place unless and until the court orders otherwise.
