Oct. 20—MITCHELL — A Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer player stood out this past week to claim the Great Plains Athletic Conference offensive player of the week honor, the league announced on Tuesday.
Hannah Petrucci, a senior forward from Flagstaff, Arizona, had record-breaking performances in a pair of conference wins. This recognition follows a week when Petrucci tallied nine goals and one assist in two home victories at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
Petrucci scored seven goals alone in the 11-1 win over Waldorf on Oct. 14, which was a new school record. In the 6-0 win against Midland on Oct. 17, she tallied two more goals.
Petrucci achieved a combined 18 shots-on-goal in both games and helped lead the Tigers to standout conference victories. Petrucci was named GPAC offensive player of the year for the first time, and she is the first player on the team to receive the honor this season.
For the season through 12 games, Petrucci is tied for the most goals in the GPAC with a total of 16, as well as contributing four assists.
Dakota Wesleyan (5-2-5, 3-2-3 GPAC) has picked up three wins in its last four contests and will face Morningside at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Elwood Olsen Stadium in Sioux City, Iowa.
