The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Friday held its Islamic National Thanksgiving Prayer Service at the Kintampo Central Mosque in the Bono East Region, bringing together party faithful, Muslim clergy, and national executives in a solemn ceremony of gratitude and reflection.
The service was organized to thank Almighty Allah for a peaceful and successful National Executive election, which saw the election of eleven national executives to lead the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The event was graced by the party’s 2028 Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who led the congregation in offering prayers and expressing gratitude to God for the party’s journey so far.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bawumia recounted his decision to concede defeat in the 2024 presidential election even before the official declaration by the Electoral Commission Chairperson.
“I conceded defeat even before the official declaration by the EC chairperson because I believed that it was not my time. God knows best, and that is why I travelled to Mecca for Umrah to thank God for the outcome of the elections.”
The former Vice President noted that the peaceful conduct of the recent party executive elections in Kumasi was a testament to divine favour. He observed that the process was so orderly that police officers assigned for security had little to do.
“The outcome is a sign that God has something good for the party,” he added.
Newly elected National Chairman John Boadu used the occasion to appeal to Muslim and Zongo communities across the country to rally behind Dr. Bawumia.
“I admonish Muslim and Zongo communities to throw their weight behind Dr. Bawumia, who is a known Muslim and Zongo person and a learned man who can help solve Ghana’s problems.”
Boadu’s endorsement underscored the party’s strategic focus on consolidating support in Zongo and Muslim-majority communities as it prepares for the 2028 polls.
The service drew a large gathering of party supporters who chanted and sang in support of Dr. Bawumia, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and hope. The presence of Muslim clergy added spiritual depth to the event, as prayers were offered for the party’s future and the nation’s prosperity.
Among the key attendees were:
· Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia – NPP Flagbearer for 2028
· John Boadu – Newly elected National Chairman
· All eleven newly elected national executives and regional executives
· Muslim clergy and community leaders
· Prominent party figures and faithful
The thanksgiving service signals the NPP’s determination to regroup, reflect, and strategize ahead of the next general elections. With a united front and a message of faith, the party is positioning itself as a vehicle for national transformation.
As the chants of supporters echoed through the streets of Kintampo, one message rang clear: the NPP is ready to march forward, with gratitude to God and hope for the future.
