Kick-off is scheduled for 7:15pm. Portugal will go into the match with a strong advantage after winning the first leg 4–0 in Northern Ireland on 9 October, as UEFA reports.
The match is an important step in Portugal’s route to the tournament in Brazil. This is the first round of the European play-offs, so tonight’s winner will advance to another two-legged tie in November and December. Winning tonight would not secure Portugal’s place at the World Cup, but it would keep the team in contention.
The Portimão municipality states that the match will provide the city with an evening of international football, allowing local fans to support their national team from the stands. The game is taking place as part of a busy day of play-off matches throughout Europe, with the various teams competing for spots in the 2027 tournament.
The World Cup will take place in Brazil from 24 June to 25 July 2027. Portugal has previously qualified for the last three European Championships and will be hoping to take another step towards a second appearance at the Women’s World Cup.
