With Odisha readying for panchayat and municipal elections next year, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday (October 15, 2026) announced construction of additional 2,91,666 houses under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana by increasing the tenure of the scheme by two years, from 2027 to 2029.
The objective of providing additional 2.91 lakh houses under Antyodaya Gruha Yojana is to provide housing for everyone in the State, said Mr. Majhi.
“The total project outlay of ₹7,550 crore for the scheme will remain unchanged. However, it has been decided to allocate ₹3,500 crore from the repair component of the project towards the construction of new houses,” said a statement issued by Chief Minister’s Office.
It said, “beneficiaries under the scheme who have received ₹48,500 or less, along with other eligible beneficiaries, will be covered under the scheme. The Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department has been directed to conduct a survey at the earliest to identify new beneficiaries.”
The State government has also revised incentives for early completion of houses. Earlier, beneficiaries who completed their houses within four months were entitled to an incentive of ₹20,000. Now it has been revised to ₹35,000 if house is constructed within five months.
Similarly, while beneficiaries who used to complete their houses within six months were earlier entitled to an incentive of ₹10,000, they will now receive ₹20,000 if they complete their houses within seven months.
Stating that this decision would enable more people to benefit from the scheme, Mr. Majhi said, “the scheme had originally envisaged the construction of houses for five lakh families. It is primarily intended for poor and vulnerable people who were not found eligible for housing assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Now, subsidised houses will reach maximum beneficiaries.”
