Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and Education and Technical Education Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif inspected the nursing school and institute at Nasser Institute Hospital alongside Hidetaka Matsu, chief executive of Japan’s Kyoto Ikueikan education group, as part of a programme to develop and establish 20 specialised technical schools.
The Egypt-Japan programme covers nursing, information technology and elderly healthcare, aiming to bring Japanese expertise into vocational education and training.
During the visit, the ministers reviewed classroom instruction and practical training at the nursing school and institute.
Abdel Ghaffar stressed that developing nursing education and practical training was essential to preparing qualified personnel for healthcare facilities. He called for updated curricula, stronger clinical training and greater use of international expertise.
He also directed officials to expand digital transformation in nursing schools and institutes and improve practical training facilities.
Abdel Latif said cooperation with the Japanese side aimed to introduce modern educational and professional practices into technical education, particularly in healthcare-related fields directly linked to labour-market needs.
The school currently has 240 female students across three secondary-level grades.
The programme comprises three years at the technical nursing secondary school, followed by two years at the institute, combining academic study with practical training.
The delegation also inspected Nasser Institute’s Nile Wing, including its intensive care units and inpatient rooms, each with a capacity of 50 beds.
Under the cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Education and Kyoto Ikueikan, the 20 specialised schools will comprise 10 nursing schools, five information technology schools and five schools focused on elderly healthcare.
The programme is intended to transfer Japanese expertise and align training with modern professional standards and labour-market needs. The statement did not specify a timetable for establishing the 20 schools or the investment allocated to the project.
