The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has forecast that from Wednesday the weather will stabilise in the Balearics, although cloudy spells will continue with the possibility of light rain.
The Aemet representative for the Balearic Islands, María José Guerrero, told Europa Press that the first rain front associated with storm Adam has already passed, although yellow warnings remain in place on Tuesday due to the arrival of a second front accompanied by rainfall of up to 30 l/m² in one hour in Ibiza and Mallorca until 12.00 and in Menorca until 18.00.
Maximum temperatures for the day will range from 20 to 24°C, whilst the average for this time of year is 23°C. On Wednesday, the day will be partly cloudy with some light rainfall, particularly in Menorca in the early hours and at night. Maximum temperatures will be around 22–25°C, whilst minimum temperatures will range from 12 to 16°C – the average is 14°C. Meanwhile, there will be a light westerly and north-westerly wind.
On Thursday, this pattern of intermittent cloud and light rain will continue in Menorca and the north of Mallorca. Temperatures could reach 21 or 24°C during the day, whilst minimum temperatures will drop to between 9 and 15°C due to prevailing northerly winds.
On Friday, another weather front will arrive, bringing little activity, so cloudy skies with some light rain will persist in Menorca; maximum temperatures will range between 22 and 25°C and minimum temperatures between 10 and 16°C.
Guerrero highlighted the “widespread rain” that has fallen across all the islands over the last few days, with rainfall totals in the last 24 hours reaching almost 80 l/m² in Calvia, over 70 in Andratx and 60 in some parts of the Serra de Tramuntana.
In addition to Mallorca, it is also worth noting the 56 litres per square metre in Ibiza, the 46 litres per square metre in Formentera, and the island least affected by this spell of rain was Menorca, with 10 litres per square metre in Es Mercadal being the highest recorded on the island. However, it was highlighted that Ibiza Airport has broken its rainfall records for the month of October, as on 19 October, rainfall reached 174 l/m² in a single day.
