New Delhi, Oct 21: Delhi Police has transferred a second case registered against Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka to the Crime Branch, sources said, on Wednesday.
The development comes a day after another case linked to the two leaders, concerning their alleged entry into the Jantar Mantar area, was transferred to the Crime Branch.
The latest transfer concerns an FIR registered at Parliament Street police station on October 13 over the alleged trespassing into the Jantar Mantar area, which has been denotified as a designated protest site.
The case also includes allegations that protesters manhandled police personnel while being removed from the premises.
The FIR was lodged on the complaint of a security officer and invokes provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to obstructing public servants, voluntarily causing hurt, assaulting a public servant, causing hurt to a public servant and common intention.
A senior police officer said the complainant was on duty when 10-11 CJP members allegedly crossed barricades and jumped the gates of a private establishment to enter the protest site.
The other case involving Das and Ranka, also linked to their alleged entry into the Jantar Mantar area, was transferred to the Crime Branch on Monday.
According to Delhi Police, Das, Ranka, Ajinkya Shinde and 11 other CJP members reached Jantar Mantar on October 13 by allegedly trespassing through private premises.
Police personnel deployed at the site intervened and attempted to stop them, following which all 14 people were detained and two FIRs were registered.
Das and Ranka were sent to five-day judicial custody on October 14 by a Special Executive Magistrate for breaching peace bonds. Their judicial custody was extended by two days on Monday.
Meanwhile, the pressure group has termed the arrests illegal, alleging that the leaders’ sureties were rejected without justification. CJP said it would challenge the magistrate’s custody order in the Delhi High Court.
In a 16-minute video message posted on social media on Tuesday, Dipke said Das and Ranka had played a central role in advancing the movement, describing them as his brothers and portraying himself as someone who followed their instructions.
Saurav and Ashu are not just better leaders than me but also better people. When I say this, I am not throwing them under the bus but rather taking pride in the fact that I have better people by my side. https://t.co/j6UXSvgoH9
