Two first-period goals did not equate to victory for the Tommies women’s hockey team, with St. Cloud State rallying to claim a 3-2 overtime victory on Friday night at Anderson Arena.
St. Thomas went up 2-0 on goals by Julianna Gazdik and Whitney Horton, and held the edge through the remainder of the first period.
It was a different story from there, however. The Huskies clawed away at the Tommies’ advantage with a lone goal in both the second and third periods to knot the contest at 2-all and forcing overtime.
The added interval didn’t last long, as St. Cloud State netted the game winner just 1:40 into the fourth period to finish off the come-from-behind victory.
St. Thomas goaltender Dani Strom made 26 saves while her teammates fired 26 shots on Huskies netminder Alexis Ehrman.
With the loss, the Tommies dropped to 3-4 on the season, while St. Cloud State upped its record to 5-2.
The two teams close out their weekend series with a 2 p.m. puck drop Saturday afternoon.
