Noted pundit Didi Hamann says Bayern Munich might be a little too dependent on Michael Olise, but do not expect Serge Gnabry to lose sleep over the statement.
“No Olise, no party,” Hamann told Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), warning that Bayern’s dependence on the Frenchman is becoming increasingly concerning. “If he doesn’t deliver, nobody else does.”
Gnabry was asked about the comments ahead of Bayern Munich’s Champions League clash with Arsenal, and he was not exactly interested in giving Hamann’s take any extra oxygen. Olise, of course, is suspended for the showdown.
“I don’t think a statement like that is going to unsettle us or give us any extra motivation. If something like that appears in the newspapers, we don’t really care. We’re just trying to win games,” Gnabry said. “Michael is one of the outstanding players in our team, delivering incredible performances. We can’t deny that when he doesn’t play, we’re missing a key element of his game. Nevertheless, the team is always prepared to make changes, and we have incredible quality up front, regardless of who plays. That’s why we simply have to give it our all [against Arsenal].”
Olise has been phenomenal, but Hamann’s take raises a legitimate question — has Bayern become too dependent on one player to make things happen?
Against Arsenal, Bayern Munich will have a chance to show whether the answer is yes — or whether the rest of the attack can step up when Olise is out.
