New Delhi, Oct 25: The Assam Rifles has announced the sixth edition of its Half Marathon, scheduled to be held in Shillong on November 22.
The 2026 edition is expected to witness record participation, reflecting the event’s growing popularity across the Northeast and the country.
The Assam Rifles Half Marathon (ARHM) Shillong is expected to attract more than 4,000 runners across three distance categories, 5 km, 10 km and 21 km, with participation open to individuals aged 12 to 60 years and above.
Runners from across the country will have the opportunity to test their endurance along the picturesque routes of Upper Shillong while competing for a total prize pool of Rs 25 lakh.
The event is also expected to draw several dignitaries from the government, the armed forces and other walks of life.
The announcement was made during a curtain-raiser event held at the Assam Rifles Liaison Office in Delhi Cantt, where organisers unveiled the official race jersey and finisher medal for this year’s edition.
Since its launch in 2021, the marathon has evolved from a fitness initiative into a symbol of unity, health and community spirit.
Highlighting the event’s growing stature, Col Apurva Bhatnagar, VSM, of HQ DG Assam Rifles, said the enhanced prize money reflects the force’s vision of making the marathon a premier sporting event in the region.
