KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan has completed candidate vetting for the 16th Melaka election, including checks with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
PH communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said selected candidates will also be required to sign a party bond, with heavy fines imposed if they breach its terms.
"If there is a breach, a fine will be imposed. For MPs previously, the fine was RM10 million," he said after attending the Smart Parents Interactive Hub programme here today.
He added that PH will officially announce its candidates on Oct 24 once the final selection process is wrapped up.
The communications minister said PH expects to field a mix of fresh faces and seasoned politicians, adding that the line-up also reflects changes in constituencies following negotiations among coalition partners.
"From what I know, although the line-up has not been fully finalised, it will be a combination," Fahmi said.
"Some have experience, some have contested elections before, some have won, and some may have contested in other constituencies."
The 16th Melaka election will be held on Nov 14, with nomination day on Oct 31 and early voting on Nov 10.
In the previous state election, Barisan Nasional won 21 of the 28 state seats, while PH secured five. — BERNAMA
