The Nasarawa State Police Command has said three suspects have been arrested in connection with the alleged cultivation and sale of marijuana in the state as part of efforts to combat crime and criminality.
The police said it recovered quantities of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, alongside freshly harvested leaves suspected to be marijuana.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, on Friday.

According to him, the suspects, identified as Aondaver Dominic, Sylvanus Umoor and Peter Tar, all males, were arrested on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at about 1300 hours by police operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia, during an anti-crime patrol at Sabongida Bature and Gidan Kparev villages, Kadarko, in the Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
He said that during the operation, the operatives were led to a suspected hideout where marijuana was allegedly sold and consumed.
The PPRO added, “Upon sighting the police operatives, the suspects attempted to flee but were apprehended. Quantities of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered during the operation.
“Further investigation led the operatives to a garden behind the suspects’ residence, where marijuana was allegedly being cultivated. Freshly harvested leaves suspected to be marijuana were recovered from the garden. All recovered exhibits have been secured for further investigation.”

He noted that the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, had ordered a thorough investigation into the matter and directed that the suspects, alongside the recovered exhibits, be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and necessary action in accordance with the law.
“The Commissioner of Police has further charged officers and men of the Command to sustain the operational tempo and intensify efforts towards combating all forms of criminality across the state.
“He reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, emphasizing that the Command will not rest on its oars until crime and criminality are decisively curtailed in Nasarawa State,” the police spokesperson added.
