LAHORE: The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has reached a record high, with rates climbing to Rs600 per kilogram in hilly areas, according to LPG Distributors Association Chairman Irfan Khokhar, ARY News reported.
Khokhar said LPG was being sold for Rs500 per kilogram in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, putting additional pressure on household budgets.
He said a domestic LPG cylinder was being sold for Rs7,200 in hilly areas, while its price had reached Rs6,000 in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The prevailing market prices are significantly higher than the rates set by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) for October.
According to Khokhar, OGRA has fixed the LPG price at Rs279 per kilogram for October, with the price of a domestic cylinder set at Rs3,350.
He called on the government to take immediate measures to control prices and provide relief to consumers facing high fuel costs.
Khokhar urged the government to use its Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) terminal to help control LPG prices. He also called for immediate LPG imports to improve supply and bring prices down.
The LPG distributors’ chairman said urgent government intervention was needed to control the rising rates and prevent consumers from paying significantly more than the officially notified prices.
