Located at 29310 Martelly Way in the Commons at Lake Houston community, the estate was designed to accommodate Foreman's growing collection of more than 40 cars.
A home can hold more than furniture and family photographs. Sometimes, it preserves the rhythms of a life lived on a grand scale. At the former Texas estate of boxing legend George Foreman, that legacy stretches across 13.5 acres, from a vast garage built for his luxury car collection to a sunlit atrium that hosted family celebrations.
Now, more than 18 months after his death at 76, the property in Huffman, northeast of Houston, is preparing for a new owner, with an asking price of $6 million, sates and exclusive report by Houston Chronicle.
A home built around family and cars
Located at 29310 Martelly Way in the Commons at Lake Houston community, the estate was designed to accommodate Foreman's growing collection of more than 40 cars. He and his wife, Mary Joan Martelly, moved there in the early 2000s after their previous Kingwood residence could no longer comfortably house the collection, states the exclusive report. The couple spent two years planning the nearly 12,000-square-foot residence, incorporating imported marble flooring and elaborate European-inspired chandeliers. Outside, the 11,000-square-foot garage became a defining feature, while the grounds included a pond surrounded by woodland, an expansive yard and an air-conditioned kennel for the family's 16 dogs. The property also reflects the thought Foreman put into his wife's comforts, with a standalone hair salon and a climate-controlled room for her fur coats.
Inside Foreman's private world
As per the report by Houston Chronicle, at the heart of the home is a soaring glass-ceiling atrium that fills a ballroom-style living area with natural light. The space became a gathering point for the family and even hosted the wedding reception of Foreman's daughter, Leola. One wing contains a gourmet kitchen, a living room and five bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. The opposite wing, closely associated with Foreman's personal interests, includes a fully equipped gym, a kitchen and a library with a small recording studio. The gym once displayed boxing memorabilia and trophies, although those items have since been removed for security reasons. In later years, the space also became a place for Foreman to spend time with his grandchildren. Custom stained-glass panels featuring animal motifs reflect his interests in hunting and raising German shepherds.Nearby, a kitchen island bearing his initials recalls another chapter of his career: the commercials he filmed for his widely recognised George Foreman Grill.
The library and studio served as a workspace for planning and recording sermons, reflecting his life beyond boxing as a minister and businessman, adds the online report.
A new chapter for the estate
The elevated residence also has a whole-home generator, an addition intended to provide reassurance during major storms. Its scale, privacy and multiple living spaces could appeal to buyers looking for a multigenerational family home or a property that can be reimagined while retaining elements of its history, states the report by Houston Chronicle.Foreman's family hopes the estate will continue to welcome people rather than become a place defined only by its past. A future owner could restore the tradition of large holiday gatherings, while another possibility is adapting the property into a community centre or shared gathering space. For a home shaped by championship success, business ventures and family life, its next chapter remains unwritten. The hope is that whoever takes over will bring the sprawling estate back to life with the same celebrations and laughter that once filled its rooms, concludes the exclusive report.Images Courtesy: Wikipedia and Houston Chronicle
