An Alberta town is gaining popularity as a top trending landlocked vacation destination for travellers heading into 2027.
Canmore is one of 13 destinations featured in Vrbo’s 2027 Heartland Hideouts list, which highlights landlocked vacation spots seeing a rise in interest from travellers.
The list is based on vacation rental searches on Vrbo between Sept. 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026, compared to the same period the year before, and Canmore saw a 55 per cent increase in vacation rental searches during that time.
“Interest in the destination has risen 55 per cent compared to the previous year, where travellers can go hiking and wildlife viewing with a fraction of the crowds, then Nordic ski at the trails built for the 1988 Winter Olympics,” the report said.

Vrbo says travellers are looking beyond the usual coastal hotspots, with nearly 65 per cent having stayed in non-coastal destinations in the past 12 months, driven by interest in experiencing local culture, food and art, avoiding crowds, and finding more affordable getaways.
Located in the Bow Valley just outside Banff National Park, Canmore offers plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors throughout the year. Visitors can explore nearby hiking trails, take in views of the Three Sisters mountains, or head out to spot some local wildlife.
When winter rolls around, the area also offers opportunities for skiing and snowshoeing, making it an option for travellers looking for a mountain escape beyond the busy summer season.
Winnipeg was the only other Canadian location to make Vrbo’s Heartland Hideouts list, seeing a 20 per cent increase in vacation rental searches compared to last year.
