The Chargers are searching for any answers they can find after falling to 0-6 this season.
Los Angeles' season has been a nightmare, as nothing has gone its way. After their most recent loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, many predicted the Chargers would fire offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.
Jim Harbaugh spoke to the media on Monday, and instead of announcing McDaniel's firing, he offered another suggestion: simplifying the offense.
“Definitely looking at volume and where you can make it to where the players can understand,” Harbaugh said, in reference to thinning the playbook.
“It’s an option. It’s something we’re looking into, for sure, along with how much that’s practiced. Does that need to be practiced more?”
McDaniel’s job is safe — for now. The 43-year-old offensive coordinator will still be calling the plays, but that could change as the Chargers are heading into their Week 7 bye.
The Chargers' latest offensive performance was arguably their worst of the season. Los Angeles scored a season-low 6 points and had nearly 200 less yards than the Chiefs despite having six more total plays.
Week 6 was just the latest of what we’ve been experiencing with the Chargers: a lackluster offense that can’t seem to get out of its own way.
A move is likely on the horizon, and if so, this week will be as good as any to make a drastic change.
The Chargers are 0-6 for the first time since 2000. They finished that season 1-15, and this year's team looks like it'll follow that path.
