He maintained that he remains fully committed to succeeding Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and expressed confidence that his position in the race is secure.
In a social media statement, the MP directed his criticism at those he accused of engineering the false narrative, arguing they had resorted to disinformation after being unable to confront his candidacy head-on.
"My UNWORTHY OPPONENTS have given up and are now banking on FAKE NEWS. Hii Nairobi ilienda kitambo sana. The Gubernatorial race is between BABU OWINO vs PAUL ONGILI," he wrote on Wednesday, October 21.
Nairobi 2027 gubernatorial contest
The statement underscores the intensifying competition ahead of the 2027 General Election, with Babu positioning himself as a frontrunner for the Nairobi top seat.
By naming Paul Ongili in his remarks, the MP signalled whom he regards as his principal rival in the contest.
The posters that prompted his response had suggested Gachagua was directing political traffic in Nairobi, steering candidates toward or away from specific seats.
Babu's swift rebuttal indicates he has no intention of altering his electoral strategy based on such messaging.
