GORKHA, Oct 13: Flooding in the Budhi Gandaki River on Sunday morning has blocked the road connecting Dharche Rural Municipality to Jagat village in Chumnubri Rural Municipality, disrupting local movement and complicating relief and rescue efforts in affected settlements.
Laxman Gurung, ward chair of Dharche-3, said the road from Phalambesi towards Basik, further up towards Jagat, has been completely blocked. The damage is so severe that even pedestrians cannot pass through, ruling out vehicle movement.
“The road from Phalambesi towards Jagat is closed. There is not even a path for people to walk, let alone vehicles,” Gurung said.

According to Gurung, the road near Harsyang Khola in Ward 3 of Dharche has sustained extensive damage. Repairs are needed, and normal movement is unlikely to resume immediately. Although workers have repaired some sections, the road above Phalambesi remains impassable.
Jagat lies in Chumnubri Rural Municipality, uphill from Dharche. The road blockage in Dharche has also cut off access to the village.
Gurung said flood-affected residents are currently staying with relatives or in homes in nearby villages. Some affected families in Dharche have taken shelter with relatives, while those from the Dobhan area have also been accommodated in nearby settlements.
He said authorities have yet to establish holding centres for displaced residents. Such centres need basic facilities, including drinking water, toilets, electricity and cooking arrangements, before they can operate.
