Halifax Regional Police said officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run on Dentith Road in Halifax at 7:35 p.m. The vehicle was described as a grey sedan that fled toward Herring Cove Road.
Officers located the vehicle on Herring Cove Road and activated emergency equipment to stop the sedan. However, the vehicle did not stop and fled the area at a high rate of speed. Police terminated the pursuit for safety concerns.
At 8:20 p.m., officers located the sedan on Purcells Cove Road and deployed a spike belt in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The sedan struck the spike belt but continued inbound where the driver lost control of the car and struck a police vehicle at the Armdale Roundabout and Qunipool Road.
Officers deployed a Conducted Energy Weapon to arrest the driver.
The driver faces criminal charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop after an accident, flight from police and breach of conditions.
Police said additional charges could be pending as investigators with the Patrol and Forensic Identification Section are in the early stages of the investigation.
