Christopher Lloyd celebrated his 88th birthday with a pitch-perfect “Back to the Future” reference.
On Thursday, the actor, who played Emmett “Doc” Brown in the beloved 1985 film and subsequent franchise entries, shared a post to X which read, “Today I turn 88…I’ve seen some serious s–t. The most serious of it all is love. I love my family, my friends, and my wonderful fans. The power of love remains.”
Lloyd’s post references an iconic line his character tells Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) in the movie.
“If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re going to see some serious s–t,” Doc tells Marty in “Back to the Future” when they test the time-traveling DeLorean for the first time.
Earlier in the day, Lloyd also shared a video message on Instagram to mark the special occasion.
The “Taxi” alum is still close friends with Fox all these years later, with the latter wishing his co-star a happy birthday in an Instagram post of his own.
Alongside a photo of the two of them smiling, the “Family Ties” alum wrote, “Great Scott, you’re 88! That’s some serious s–t, love you! 😎.”
“We truly are timeless. Love you friend,” Lloyd replied in the comments section.
The two actors became especially close while filming 1990’s “Back to the Future Part III.”
“Chris is a great guy. He’s very enigmatic,” Fox told Variety in 2023. “It took me a few films to get to know him. On ‘Back to the Future Part III’ we connected in a way we hadn’t on the other films. I came to see how much he loved acting. I never got that before.”
“To sit down and talk about acting, and talk about Shakespeare and ‘King Lear’…This guy can play King Lear! People don’t expect that of him. He’s full of surprises,” Fox added.
Lloyd’s memoir, “In My Own Time,” comes out next week.
