Police have confirmed they are investigating an incident after a rugby ball was kicked into the stadium during a Premier League match in London over the weekend.
A video shared online appears to show a man kicking the ball from the top of a building overlooking the Gtech Community Stadium during Brentford’s match against Liverpool.
The ball appears to pass over the stand and into the stadium, with a member of staff then seen taking the ball away from the pitch.
Brentford released a statement on Monday, confirming that the “dangerous” act had been referred to the police.
The statement read: “Brentford Football Club is aware of an incident involving an item being kicked from a height towards the field of play during Saturday’s match against Liverpool.
“Such behaviour is dangerous and potentially very harmful.
“The matter has been referred to the police and the club is supporting the relevant authorities in their investigation to help identify those responsible and take appropriate action, which may result in criminal prosecution.
“The matchday safety of fans, staff, players and officials is of utmost importance, and the club will support all efforts to ensure action is taken.”
A Met spokesperson told The Standard: “Police are aware of an incident which occurred during the Brentford v Liverpool match on Saturday, 17 October, where an item was kicked towards the pitch.
“Officers are making enquiries to establish if any offences have been committed.”
