Kasempa Town Council has qualified for a second capital grant from the Zambia Devolution Support Program (ZDSP), paving the way for a modern market, improved waste management and extended street lighting projects in the district.
Council Public Relations Officer, Mukosela Kasalwe, disclosed that the local authority qualified under Disbursement-Linked Result (DLR) 9.1 after increasing its local revenue by five percent, the second critical criterion for the grant.
Mr Kasalwe said this in an interview with the media in Kasempa today.
“The funds will be used to construct a modern market in the Central Business District, procure a skip truck and waste bins, and extend streetlights to Mukinge Hospital,” he added.
Mr Kasalwe said the grant would translate into more infrastructure and socio-economic development for Kasempa District.
He further disclosed that the grant would also support other projects aimed at improving the welfare of Kasempa residents.
“The council qualified for its first grant of K18 million under DLR 2.1. The performance-based grant is available to local authorities that meet minimum set standards and is intended to strengthen institutional capacity in implementing decentralisation,
“Projects funded under the first grant include a water reticulation system at Nselauke Market, solar street lights in the Central Business District, and the procurement of a tractor and trailer,” he added.
Mr Kasalwe said the latest qualification followed a rigorous and transparent assessment by the ZDSP, which recognised its transparency, commitment to duty and tireless efforts.
“Kasempa Town Council celebrates this milestone with you, our esteemed members of the public, as it will enable the Council to serve you even better,” he added.
