Mangrove conservation is essential not only for environmental protection but also for human survival, said A.P. Green Executive Committee chairman and Jana Sena Party (JSP) MLC Konidela Nagababu.
Participating in a mangrove restoration programme at Sangameswaram near Avanigadda on Tuesday (October 13, 2026), Mr. Nagababu planted saplings as part of an initiative to cover 100 hectares with three lakh mangrove trees. MLA Mandali Buddha Prasad was also present.
Speaking at the programme, Mr. Nagababu stated that the Water, Land, and Trees Act (WALTA Act) will be strengthened soon to prevent the destruction of valuable trees. He added that in States such as Keralam and Karnataka, the governments impose restrictions on cutting down trees, while in Andhra Pradesh even when there are enough laws, their implementation is patchy.
Emphasising the importance of every plant, he urged people to take responsibility for safeguarding trees and natural resources. He warned that pollution was seriously affecting public health, citing increasing air pollution in Hyderabad and concerns over water pollution in the Godavari districts. He called for collective efforts to control pollution and preserve forests, water resources, and biodiversity.
Later, Mr. Nagababu inaugurated a park built at a cost of ₹15 lakh in Aswaravupalem village and unveiled a statue of former Minister Mandali Venkata Krishna Rao. He also laid foundation stones for four roads, estimated to cost ₹54.60 lakh, under the Palle Panduga scheme.
