Understated and versatile, this Whistles jacket is the autumn 2026 staple. It’s bound to sell out – it’s on sale right now – and looks way more expensive than it is. Here’s why – and how – everyone is wearing it.
When I began getting ready for work this morning, I checked the weather out of my window and saw the sky. Autumn weather had eclipsed any remaining sunshine; it looked cold and dreary, and all I wanted to do was wear clothes that are cosy.
And while I have no end of warm and practical coats, I am yet to find that one wardrobe staple that is not only cosy but stylish too. A good autumn/winter jacket is one that can instantly elevate an outfit while adding a true layer of warmth. You should be able to chuck it over thermals and still look considered, or wear it over a light layer and still feel snug.
Whistles taupe casual contrast collar jacket
This jacket from Whistles is utilitarian in shape and colour, but it’s all in the details. The deep fabric accent collar adds a touch of quiet luxury, while the pockets add visual interest.
It can be worn for cosy pub walks or the office, and you can dress it up or down – it looks great with a pair of straight-leg jeans and a statement buckle belt, but it can be paired with your favourite pair of crisp work trousers.
It’s beige, so it works with every colour we’re loving this season. Pair with an olive green knit or a roll-neck jumper. As we head into winter, burgundy accents – scarfs and gloves – complement it perfectly. But really, there’s little styling required; with bold collars and flap pockets, this piece holds itself.
