Things were looking good for Kaizer Chiefs midfield maestro Lebohang Maboe before the break. However, 24 hours is a long time in football.
Maboe has been Chiefs’ main man
Chiefs midfield schemer Lebo Maboe pulled up with an injury in Chiefs’ 0-0 draw with Golden Arrows, a match in which he also missed a penalty. The injury meant he had to pull out of the Bafana squad that beat Guinea and Eritrea in AFCON qualifiers. Now, there’s no certainty as to how long that thigh issue will keep him out of action. He’s almost certain to miss their match with Stellenbosch on Tuesday, 13 October.
Chiefs have drawn four of their last five matches in the league, and can ill-afford to resume their Betway Premiership campaign with more dropped points.
Good and bad injury news for Kaizer Chiefs
Striker Flavio Silva is back in training alongside Khanyisa Mayo, who has recovered after a hernia operation. 21-year-old Langelihle Phili is also nearing a return after a serious ankle injury he sustained in late August during training. Phili could return towards the end of October, but the technical staff won’t rush the exciting winger back.
