By Zoila Palma: Today, the Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) and the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) announced a partnership to extend electricity services to Secret Beach, one of Ambergris Caye’s most popular and fastest-growing destinations.
A joint statement noted that the project is a targeted infrastructure expansion designed to support sustainable growth in the area and improve daily life for the residents, entrepreneurs, and visitors who depend on it. It also marks an important step forward for both Belize’s tourism sector and its national energy infrastructure.
“Connecting Secret Beach to the national grid will deliver direct, everyday benefits. Improved public and commercial lighting will allow businesses and restaurants to safely extend their evening hours, while dedicated electrical infrastructure will improve visibility and safety for residents, workers, and visitors,” it noted.
In addition, BEL and BTB noted that over the longer term, safe, reliable, and sustainable power is expected to attract new investment, encourage local entrepreneurship, and strengthen economic development across this important part of the island.
BEL and BTB pledged to continue to work closely with community stakeholders and local businesses to ensure the project delivers lasting value for Secret Beach and for Belize.
