Commercial International Bank – Egypt (CIB) has been included in Fortune’s 2026 Change the World list under the Economic Empowerment category, becoming the only bank from Africa and the Middle East to feature on this year’s list.
The recognition reflects the bank’s commitment to developing innovative financing solutions that expand economic opportunities and promote financial inclusion by directing funding towards sectors and groups most in need of support, helping generate sustainable economic and social impact.
CIB was selected in recognition of its role as financial adviser to the issuance of EGP 7bn in sustainable social sukuk, a sustainable financing instrument used to channel capital towards small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and improve access to finance for underserved groups.
The issuance reflects the bank’s vision of using capital market instruments to connect capital with the needs of the real economy, supporting business growth, expanding investment opportunities, creating jobs, and stimulating sustainable economic development.
Hisham Ezz El-Arab, Chief Executive Officer and Board Member of CIB, said: “We are proud that Commercial International Bank has been included in Fortune’s list for the second time. This recognition reflects our commitment to leveraging our financial expertise to support economic growth and promote financial inclusion.”
He added: “The EGP 7bn sustainable social sukuk issuance demonstrates how financial innovation and the expansion of sustainable financing mechanisms can be used to address genuine market needs and direct capital towards projects and sectors capable of delivering tangible economic and social impact.”
CIB continues its efforts to support SMEs, promote financial inclusion, and expand access to financial services, recognising the vital role these businesses play in driving economic growth, improving productivity, creating employment opportunities, and supporting sustainable development.
