The Automobile Association of Bangladesh (AAB) is set to launch a Road Accident Assistance Center to support people affected by road accidents and their families.
The centre will provide six types of services, including counselling, medical assistance, legal advice, support for insurance claim settlements, necessary information and financial assistance.
The announcement was made on Thursday at an awareness programme organised at AAB’s head office in Moghbazar, Dhaka, marking National Road Safety Day 2026.
The organisation observed the day under the theme “Safe Roads, Prosperous Country - Bangladesh First.” It also launched the “AAB Zero Contact Campaign” with the slogan “Obey the Law, Return Home Safely.”
AAB President Barrister Ajmalul Hossain KC attended the programme as the chief guest, while the organisation’s Chief Executive Officer, retired Major General Saidul Islam, was present as the special guest.
AAB said providing prompt first aid after a road accident, calling the national emergency service at 999 and safely taking the injured person to the nearest hospital are crucial.
Alongside immediate medical treatment, long-term support for accident victims and their families is also necessary. The proposed assistance centre is intended to address these needs.
The centre will provide mental health support through professional counsellors, essential information following accidents, and medical advice and assistance.
It will also offer legal advice and representation through lawyers.
In addition, the centre will help victims and their families complete insurance claim procedures and provide financial assistance when necessary.
As part of its National Road Safety Day observance, AAB conducted awareness activities in different parts of the country. A road safety rally was organised from the association’s office.
Awareness leaflets and the International Automobile Federation’s (FIA) road safety “Golden Rules” cards were distributed among drivers of buses, ride-sharing vehicles, private cars, rickshaws and CNG-run auto-rickshaws.
Meanwhile, AAB’s road safety ambassadors conducted awareness activities at the local level in Chattogram, Sylhet and Cumilla.
The organisation also took initiatives to raise road safety awareness among school students. Nine programmes were organised at different schools, with 1,683 students from Classes I to V participating.
Speakers at the programme said road accidents could be reduced significantly by obeying traffic laws, wearing helmets and seat belts, and driving at controlled speeds.
They stressed that ensuring road safety requires collective efforts by the government, various organisations and citizens.
They also emphasised the importance of standing beside road accident victims and providing necessary assistance to affected families.
