Imphal, October 12: The Joint Tribe Council Manipur (JTC-Manipur) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Centre and the Manipur government to recover the missing head of 52-year-old Naga civilian Ajinbou Ringkangmai, whose headless body has been brought to the mortuary of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal.
Ajinbou was reportedly killed and decapitated during recent violence in Makui and Tapon Naga village in Kangpokpi district.
In a statement, the JTC-Manipur Working Committee, representing the Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme communities, said post-mortem examinations of Ajinbou and another victim, Dibambou Ringkangmai, would remain suspended until Ajinbou’s missing head was recovered and returned to his family for a dignified burial.
The council condemned the killing and decapitation, holding the Centre and the state government responsible for ensuring justice and the recovery of the missing remains.
“The decapitated head of Ajinbou R. remains missing, held captive by the perpetrators,” the statement said, adding that the post-mortem examinations would not be conducted until the missing head was recovered and handed over to the family.
The JTC has demanded the immediate recovery of the missing remains and the arrest and prosecution of those it has named as alleged perpetrators, including Thangboi Kipgen, David Hangsing and Dr Seilen Haokip. The allegations against the individuals could not be independently verified.
The council also criticised the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, alleging that those responsible for the incident were operating with impunity under its protection. It accused the authorities of failing to take adequate action.
The JTC warned that it would take stringent measures if the two governments failed to meet its demands within 48 hours.
“The blood of our innocent villagers will not be washed away by bureaucratic delays and empty condolences,” the committee said.
The council reiterated that the recovery of Ajinbou’s missing head was essential for the family to perform the final rites and give him a dignified burial.
