GOYANG — The city of Goyang in Gyeonggi Province has turned to field-based outreach to prevent truck-related traffic accidents and establish sound practices in the freight transport sector.
Goyang said on the 23rd that it had wrapped up its 2026 campaign to strengthen truck safety and stamp out illegal practices. The campaign, first held last year and now an annual event, aims to encourage voluntary compliance with regulations and take root a culture of safety at freight worksites.
The activities were tied to refresher training sessions for freight workers and held three times — on Oct. 8, 21 and 22 — at Goyang Eoullim Nuri. About 400 people took part in each session, for a total of roughly 1,200 participants.
To make the campaign more effective, related organizations joined forces, including the Gyeonggi Individual Delivery Truck Association, the Gyeonggi Individual Freight Association and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority. The joint public-private effort encouraged freight workers to practice safe driving on their own initiative.
The program covered the risks illustrated by major truck accident cases, a practical guide for workers to inspect their vehicles and surroundings on their own, and an explanation of freight transport laws and penalties for violations. Rather than focusing on enforcement, the city emphasized prompting drivers to check for vehicle problems and nearby hazards themselves before setting out.
A Goyang official said, "We hope this campaign serves as an opportunity to raise safety awareness among freight workers and to establish a culture of compliance with regulations." The official added, "We will continue to do our best to prevent violations, create a traffic environment where residents can feel safe and build a sound freight transport market."
