Environmental organizations and wildlife activists are staging a protest outside the Ministry of Environment, demanding action against those responsible for the shooting of iconic tusker Kavantissa.
The protesters are calling on the government to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice and to introduce effective measures to protect Sri Lanka’s wild elephants.
The protest follows the death of Kavantissa on October 16, after the tusker underwent weeks of treatment for a gunshot injury.
Activists are also urging authorities to take stronger action to prevent similar incidents and ensure the long-term protection of the country’s elephant population. (Newswire)
