BuyZed Campaign is appealing to Lusaka City Council to halt the placement of advertising materials at Longacres Roundabout in Lusaka, as they are obstructing motorists’ visibility.
BuyZed Campaign Chief Executive Officer, Evans Ng’oma, has noted with concern that Roundabouts are critical traffic points where motorists require clear visibility to make safe decisions.
Mr Ng’oma added that any advertising structure that compromises this visibility poses a potential danger to road users.
“We therefore ask the Lusaka City Council one fundamental question as to who authorised the placement of these advertising materials at such a sensitive traffic location, and what road safety considerations informed that decision,” questioned Mr Ng’oma.
He acknowledged the Council’s efforts to restore order in the city, including enforcing regulations against street vending in unauthorised locations.
Mr Ng’oma added that the same commitment to order and public safety must apply to commercial advertising.
“We call upon the Lusaka City Council, working with relevant authorities, to urgently inspect the site, review any approvals granted, and remove or relocate advertising structures found to compromise visibility and road safety,” said Mr. Ng’oma.
He further stated that the BuyZed Campaign believes that a well-organised, safe and commercially vibrant city is essential to Zambia’s economic development.
“Lusaka must develop, but development must never come at the expense of public safety, and we therefore, urge the Council to act before a preventable accident occurs,” added Mr Ng’oma.
