Champhai, Oct 18: Curtains came down on Hnahsin Kut-2026 on Friday night with a musical concert, capping 11 days of celebrations showcasing Champhai’s natural beauty, cultural heritage and community spirit.
Organised by the Champhai Nature Conservancy (CNC) with support from the Mizoram Government, the festival was held from October 6 to 16, with the cosmos blooms as its signature attraction. The event seeks to promote nature-based tourism while creating economic opportunities for local communities.
Addressing the closing ceremony, Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar greeted the people of Mizoram on the occasion and acknowledged the festival’s growing contribution to Champhai and neighbouring areas. He thanked the CNC, which initiated the festival, as well as the people of Champhai for their continued participation and support.
The festival’s economic impact was evident during its current edition, which attracted an estimated 1.2 lakh visitors. The concert on the final night alone drew around 42,000 people, while the festival stalls recorded an estimated Rs 2 crore in revenue. Accommodation providers in Champhai earned approximately Rs 1.4 crore during the event.
The overall flow of revenue into Champhai and the surrounding areas during the festival period was estimated at around Rs 15 crore, including expenditure on restaurants, retail outlets, transport and other tourism-related services. The figures underline the potential of cultural festivals to generate business for local entrepreneurs and extend tourism benefits beyond event venues.
Hnahsin Kut reflects Mizoram Tourism’s Culture, Adventure and Nature theme, combining the seasonal cosmos blooms with local traditions, music, cuisine and hospitality. By providing a platform for artists, performers, craftspeople and entrepreneurs, the festival also links tourism with the State’s wider creative economy.
Organisers see the festival as an example of how community-led initiatives can bring together environmental conservation, cultural expression and sustainable tourism while supporting livelihoods in the region.
